Role of the Texas Life Science Center for Innovation and Commercialization

 

The Texas Life Science Center (TLSC) advises the State of Texas on ETF life science funding applications.

 

The TLSC was established with the purpose of identifying, for potential ETF funding, promising early-stage inventions and discoveries that might not otherwise receive funding due to their stage of development, and to advance those inventions and discoveries to the stage necessary to attract the private investment required to progress them through later stages of development and commercialization. 

 

The TLSC’s recommendations are submitted to the Texas Emerging Technology Committee (TETC ETF Advisory Committee), which is a group appointed by the Governor with responsibility for making recommendations on all technologies for funding awards from the ETF to the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives (the Leadership Team).  The Leadership Team makes final investment decisions.

 

TLSC History

 

The Texas Life Science Center was officially approved by the ETF Advisory Committee, the Governor-appointed 17-member state board, as the only statewide Regional Center of Innovation and Commercialization (RCIC) with the purpose of collecting, reviewing, and submitting applications to the board for possible funding from the Emerging Technology Fund (ETF).

 

The TLSC makes recommendations to the ETF Advisory Committee which approves applications for consideration by the Leadership Team which consists of the Governor, Lt. Governor and the Speaker of the House. The Leadership Team makes the final decisions on awards.

 

The TLSC accepts all funding applications from the entire state of Texas in broad areas of medical devices, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, veterinarian medicine, agricultural production, genomic research, nanotechnology convergence, and bioinformatics.
