Michael
Engler is currently President & CEO of
Cactus Feeders in Amarillo, TX. He
received his B.A. in 1973 and his Ph.D.
in Biology in 1978 from Johns Hopkins
University, Baltimore, MD. He did
postgraduate training in the Dept. of
Biological Chemistry at Harvard Medical
School from 1978 – 1982. He was an
Assistant Professor, Dept. of
Biochemistry and Molecular Biology,
University of Texas Medical School at
Houston from 1982 – 1990, where his
research dealt with DNA synthesis
mutants of yeast and the Pasteurella
haemolytica leukotoxin gene
cluster. From 1991 – 1993, he was
Senior Project Manager, Biologicals,
Langford, Inc. & Lederie-Praxis
Biologicals, subsidiaries of American
Cyanamid, working with vaccine research
and development projects for cattle,
swine and poultry employing
conventional, recombinant and vector
technologies. He currently serves on
the boards of the Texas Cattle Feeders
Association, Advisory Council of the
National Beef Cattle Evaluation
Consortium, International Center for
Food Industry Excellence (Texas Tech),
USDA Advisory Committee on
Biotechnology, Texas Life Science
Center, Baptist St. Anthony’s Hospital,
Harrington Foundation and the Amarillo
Area Foundation.
