Brian Herman, Ph.D. |
|
Dr. Brian Herman is currently Vice President for
Research (VPR) and Professor of Cellular &
Structural Biology at the University of Texas
Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA).
He received his graduate and postgraduate
training at the University of Connecticut Health
Science Center and Harvard Medical School.
Following postgraduate training, Dr. Herman held
the positions of Assistant/Associate/Full
Professor in the Department of Cell Biology and
Anatomy (now Cell and Developmental Biology) at
the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
(UNC-CH, 1983-1998). Prior to his assuming his
current position, he was the Chairperson of the
Cellular and Structural Biology Department at
the UTHSCSA (1998-2004). During his academic
career, he has received numerous honors
including an American Cancer Society Faculty
Research Award, the Dozor Fellowship and two NIH
MERIT awards. In 2004, he received the UTHSCSA’s
highest honor, the Presidential Senior Scholar
Award. He has served on and chaired numerous
federal peer review grant panels, served on many
editorial boards, has reviewed many manuscripts
for numerous journals, and has organized,
chaired and spoke at numerous international
scientific meetings. He currently serves on the
boards of numerous organizations including the
Executive Committee of the San Antonio Life
Sciences Institute (SALSI), a founding board
member of the San Antonio Technology Accelerator
Initiative (SATAI), the Texas Technology
Research Foundation, San Antonio, Inc., BioMed
SA, and serves as the Chair elect of the
American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC)
Group on Research Advancement and Development
(GRAND). |
