Mr. Huff is the
Founder, Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer
of Reata Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Founded in 2002,
Reata is a biopharmaceutical company focused on
selecting and discovering promising early drug
development opportunities and translating them
into successful marketed drugs that target major
unmet clinical needs in cancer, inflammation and
neurodegenerative disease. The company’s two
lead programs are entering advanced clinical
trials for deadly, late-stage cancers. In
parallel with its clinical development, Reata is
advancing a breakthrough drug discovery platform
using protein misfolding, identified as a key
factor in cancer and neurodegenerative disease,
to feed its pipeline of small molecule
therapeutic candidates.
Mr. Huff started his career as an attorney with
Johnson & Gibbs, P.C., a large institutional law
firm, where he was a Senior Partner and Chairman
of the Corporate Securities Practice. Mr. Huff’s
practice emphasis included representing issuers,
underwriters, and investors in financing and
related transactions for companies in the life
science, computer, and telecommunications
industries.
Mr. Huff left the practice of law to join Ergo
Science Corporation, a startup biopharmaceutical
company in Boston, Massachusetts. Ergo developed
neurotransmitter modulating drugs that were used
for the treatment of Type II diabeties. Mr. Huff
joined Ergo as its first business executive and
served as its President and Chief Executive
Officer. Under Mr. Huff’s leadership, Ergo
developed a small molecule drug through Phase
III clinical trials and NDA filing and completed
an initial public offering with leading biotech
underwriters within 39 months of its seed
financing.
Prior to founding Reata, Mr. Huff served as an
entrepreneur in residence at StarTech Ventures
and as interim Chief Executive Officer of Light
Biology, a developer of customizable DNA
microarray systems. Light Biology was combined
with NimbleGen Systems, and the combined entity
was acquired by Roche Diagnostics in a
transaction valued at more than $250.0 million.
Mr. Huff attended Southern Methodist University
School of Law and received his Juris Doctor in
May 1979. Mr. Huff also attended the University
of Texas at Austin and received his Bachelors of
