Dr. Bob Ulrich is a
General Partner and Managing Member of Vanguard
Ventures, venture capital firm focused on seed
and early stage investments. Bob is a seasoned
veteran of both the venture capital community
and the health care industry, earning prominence
as a technologist, operating executive, CEO,
entrepreneur and venture capital investor. He
has been affiliated with Vanguard for eighteen
of his twenty-one years in venture capital.
During his career as a venture capitalist, he
has been instrumental in raising over $400
million in funds for investment in life science
and information technology start-ups, and has
been responsible for over $200 million in life
science investments that have created over $8
billion in value.
Bob has served as a
Director of several private and public
companies. He has also been the founding CEO of
five start-up companies whose successes resulted
in four acquisitions and one IPO. Prior to that
he spent 11 years in management roles in three
major corporations; Johnson and Johnson, General
Electric and Monsanto. His current professional
affiliations include; Member and past Director
and Treasurer of the Houston Venture Capital
Association; and Director, BioHouston.
Bob's formal
education is in the areas of physics (BA) and
materials science (MS and PhD). He also attended
GE's "internal MBA" program at Crotonville, NY.
